The legend at a glance

The Brazilian made his F1 debut in 1984 with Toleman, then drove for Lotus and, from 1988, for McLaren, with whom he won three world titles (1988, 1990, 1991). He took 41 wins and 65 pole positions – a record at the time of his death. He was killed on 1 May 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, in his third race for Williams. His qualifying speed, mastery in the wet and uncompromising approach still inspire drivers and fans around the world.
